Personally I prefer the choice of The Australian's John Lethlean who reckons it's a bit silly to try and rank the best by number. He just settles for a top 50 and throws in a few reserves for good measure.

Sepia given the gong by the experts polled by the Australian Financial Review
The Australian Financial Review relied on a selected 500 of the nation's chefs to choose its list of Australia's best restaurants after the 500 were sorted out by "a distinguished Australia-wide panel of Good Food Guide editors, reviewers and industry experts."
