Power eating in Canberra

The veteran political writer for The Australian Dennis Shanahan takes his readers this morning on a tour of Canberra's political eating spots. I particularly liked this anecdote linking the city's parliamentary and culinary history.
IN light of recent events it is worth mentioning that the original Timmy, who in the early 1970s opened Timmy’s Kitchen in Manuka (popular with pollies for takeaway and a great beef rendang), swore that on his opening night he had no customers and was feeling distraught, until a large frame filled the doorway looking to be fed. Timmy swears Gough Whitlam was his first customer.
While Gough got the first feed from Timmy, Julia Gillard’s last supper when she was dumped came as takeaway from Portia’s.
