"Cloning freckle-free banana plants for distribution to Northern Territory farmers is now a possibility, after a new laboratory was opened by the NT Government.
The new tissue culture laboratory will help propagate disease free plants across a range of crops.
NT authorities fear the banana freckle fungus, which affects the quality of the fruit, could threaten the wider Australian banana industry if it spreads outside of the Territory."
