Dining like a Peer

Peers’ Dining Room in London's House of Lords is admitting mere commoners for lunch in the lead-up to the forthcoming general election. On weekdays between Tuesday 14 April and Friday 8 May 2015 a 3-course lunch, with the menu priced at £35.00 per person, will be available to the public.

Typical dishes available on the lunch menu include:
  • Pressed game terrine with baby leek and dandelion salad
  • Potted confit of sea trout and crab with British spring salad and crab dressing
  • Classic St. George’s mushroom vol au vent and truffled bĂ©arnaise sauce (vegetarian)
  • Slow cooked ox cheek with Irish champ mash, heritage carrots, salsa verdi and jus
  • Baked salmon with tagliatelle of vegetables, parsley potatoes and chive butter sauce
  • Sweet potato, kale and quinoa cake, poached duck egg and hollandaise (vegetarian)
  • Elderflower summer pudding with clotted cream and lavender shortbread
  • Chocolate and raspberry torte with raspberry sorbet
There's a chance that lunchers will actually share the Pugin-wallpapered space with an actual Lord. The Financial Times reports that Peers will continue to  enjoy deals such as their “express” lunch, which offers two courses and a glass of wine for £16.
